Pin and stretch is a type of soft tissue therapy that is used to help elongate muscles and decrease muscular tension. A therapist will pin down a muscle that is tight and have you go through your range of motion. By pinning down the muscles we can get specific on the exact point of the muscle that we want to stretch.
Pin and stretch helps by being as specific as possible. When you stretch on your own, you're stretching the full muscle and you may not be getting those tight sore spots. When we pin a certain part of the muscle down, we can stretch that specific part of the muscle.
This helps relieve tension and get rid of trigger points. Trigger points are balled up points of your muscles that usually cause pain. Pin and stretch helps release those points and give you a longer-lasting relief than just passive stretching.
